Kindred Spirit FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

What are the prices for your day sail or sunset packages and what is included?

Full Day Sails - $600 for a private charter for up to six people. Full Day Sails include a light lunch, snacks. Bring your own drinks. You are welcome to bring along adult beverages as well. We have plenty of ice and cold storage. All sails leave from the Christiansted boardwalk on the harbor at 9am and return there at 4pm. Most sails include two snorkel stops, a lunch stop, and can include kayaking, fishing, knee-boarding, a stop at a beach, and of course, sailing! The specific activities are tailored to the interests of our guests. The sailing and snorkeling directions and stops are based on the wind and weather conditions of the day.

Sunset Sails - $450 for a private charter for up to six people. Sunset Sails normally depart from the boardwalk on Christiansted harbor at approximately 5 to 6pm, depending on the time of year. Sunset Sails can include Wine and Hors D’Oeuvres or Dinner for additional charges but our standard sunset sail does not include food or beverages.

What is included in your 3-Day/2-Night BVI Getaway Charter for $400 per person?

Our most popular charter package is the 3-Day/2-Night Getaway to the BVIs (British Virgin Islands) for $400 per person or $2400 for a private charter for up to six people. The charter includes the Captain and Crew, accommodations (three cabins, double occupancy – all cabins have private en suite heads and showers) for up to six guests, beach and bath towels, sheets, kitchen cooking and serving utensils (pots, pans, silverware, plates, cups, glasses, bowls), basic spices, paper products (TP, paper towels, napkins), snorkeling equipment, fishing gear, other "water toys," i.e., kayaks and a knee board, plenty of cold storage space for food and drinks, pantry space for non-perishables, 20-lbs. of ice, charcoal brickets and lighter fluid, and fuel.

The boat generally leaves at approximately 4pm on the day of departure and returns at approximately 9pm on the third day of the charter.

For all BVI charters, a Customs Fee of $25 per person is charged in addition to the $400 per person charter fee ($2400 total charter fee for private charters.)

What if we want to extend the charter for a few days?

We do additional nights for $150 per person per night. A week charter is $6000, which is very competitive for a crewed catamaran charter.

Where do you catch the boat?

The boat generally leaves from Christiansted (C'sted) harbor on the boardwalk. Guests should arrive approximately 15 mins. prior to departure time, or earlier (30 mins.) for multiple day charters to provide time to load and stow food and personal items. BVI charters should plan on contacting the boat at least one day prior to departure to arrange clearance through customs in C’sted. All passengers must be carrying a valid passport and be personally cleared through customs by the Captain before departure and after returning to the United States.

For cruise ship passengers, you can catch a taxi in Fredricksted to Christiansted for approximately $12 per person round trip. The trip takes about 30 minutes. The taxi will drop you off in the Government Parking Lot in Christiansted, a short walk from the harbor. You will catch the taxi back to Fredricksted from the same place it dropped you off.

For BVI charters, the boat normally departs at approximately 4pm on the first day of the charter.

We can also coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs pretty much anywhere in the Virgin Islands with adequate advanced notice.

Do you ever put different parties together to get to the four person minimum?

We often put together parties to fill up the boat. In this instance, you would only be paying $400 per person regardless of whether there are four, five or six people on board. However, if you wish to book a private charter, the cost is six times the per person rate, i.e., $2400 for a 3-Day/2-Night BVI Getaway, plus $30 per person Customs Fees.

What kind of deposit is required to hold a reservation?

A non-refundable deposit of 1/2 is due upon booking the charter, with the balance due upon departure. We accept cash, person checks and travelers checks. Deposits can be dropped off in person at our office behind the “Sugarmill” or Commanche Yachtless Club just off the Christiansted Boardwalk, or mailed to:

International Charter Services, Inc.
RR#1 Box 6942
Kingshill, VI 00850

All checks should be made out to International Charter Services, Inc.

Office hours are Noon to 4pm, Monday to Friday or by appointment. 340-718-5464

What documentation do you need to get into the BVIs?

BRING YOUR PASSPORTS!! Since the passport laws have changed, passports are required to enter the BVIs. The Captain takes care of clearing customs for everyone on board upon arriving in the BVIs (normally on Jost Van Dyke or Tortola.) There is normally no need for guests to clear customs in person. We do our very best not to interrupt your vacation with paperwork!

PLEASE NOTE!! All BVI bound guests must now clear customs in C’sted before departing and again when reentering the USA. The Captain will take care of this, but must have your physical passports to do so. Please coordinate this with the Captain prior to departure.

How does provisioning/food and meal preparation work?

Most guests opt to provision (or buy) food and beverages (including drinking water) themselves and to cook for themselves. This ensures they get exactly what they want (brand of coffee (or rum!), types of cheeses, whatever…) We can provision for the boat for a fee of $50, plus the cost of the food. The Captain can also prepare meals for a charge of $50 per meal.

Does the crew provision and prepare meals for themselves?

The crew provisions for themselves, however, on most charters guests and crew pool their provisions and everyone eats together. (It’s more fun that way!)

What is the custom surrounding tipping?

The customary tipping range for charters is 10-20%, similar to standard restaurant or other services tipping in the islands.

Where do we go on a BVI Getaway?

The ports-of-call are completely up to the guests, but most trips spend the first night at The Bight on Norman Island (the real Treasure Island and home of Willie T’s), snorkel the next morning at The Caves, and then The Indians, then sail through Thatches Passage to Jost Van Dyke (White Bay, Soggy Dollar Bar (famous for their Painkillers), Foxy's), then head over to Beef Island, Tortola (The Last Resort) and spend the next night in Trellis Bay. The third day is usually spent at the Baths on Virgin Gorda, then the boat sails back to C'sted.

Can you find others to share a charter with us?

Yes, we can find people to share the charter and the cost. If you have two to four people interested in a charter, we can match you up with one to two couples to share the experience.

Please contact us at 340-718-5464 or iybcs13@gmail.com to find out if we are looking to fill space or
to add you to our standby list.
